Sometimes it's OK to let him slay the dragon. Especially if he really wants to.

For the last few months I've been enjoying the blog 500 Pieces of Advice for My Baby Daughter. (Note: although the blog isn't always safe for work, the links I'm providing here are fine.) It's usually charming and sometimes insightful, and the author has good taste in poetry. But today's post struck a sour note.

All sorts of responses come to mind. Rather than argue the point I figured I'd offer some advice of my own.

Some people have ulterior motives, so be careful who you give yourself to. But if a strong and truly generous man admires you and wants to protect you from harm, think twice before calling him oppressive. "Thank you" is a better choice.
