Gainful employment
Tomorrow I start my first temping assignment: a three-day stint proofreading for the magazine of a scientific association. Apparently it's in a spiffy building a few blocks from the White House. Hurray!
And today I sent out my first resume-and-cover-letter combo. Scary. (I don't even want to think about how many times I proofread those things!) It's a good thing that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor the job to the polished-and-prepared. I keep reminding myself of the melodramatic "statement of personal purpose" that I once whipped up for a study abroad application. I had no time to do it well, but unexpectedly found myself accepted to all the schools I applied for. God will certainly provide, which is a welcome thought.
Soon I hope to post about a book I've been reading on the theology of work, which I found at my church bookstore on Sunday. It's very interesting stuff. Perhaps I can draft blog posts while riding the Metro.

what's the book called? I want to read it too.
and I know you'll get the job that God wants you to, because, after all, as Dad said once, "God is bigger than us -- He's really twice our size at least." ;-)
I know, you could come be assistant to the Alpha secretary at the church office!! Yeah!!
I would love to be your assistant! That would be fun.
The book is God at Work by Gene Edward Veith. It's quite good.
congratulations.. what association?
Gene Edward Veith is a terrific author -- haven't heard of the book, but would love to read it.
You should draft blog posts on the metro. I've been reading Pen on Fire, if you've been reading my blog :), and am all about squishing writing into the spare moments now :).
I miss you Sarah. I'm glad to see the evidence of God's grace in your life. I sent you an email last week... let me know how you are doing when you have a moment.
